What is the Indian Ocean Territories Voyage?

Like last year, we are once again taking a small group of volunteers to the Cocos (Keeling) Islands and Christmas Island to clean-up marine debris from their beautiful island shores. 

This is a fantastic opportunity to experience the islands and assist with our long-term on-island marine debris projects, helping to protect the local environment from the impacts of ocean plastic.

When is it taking place?

Cocos (Keeling) Islands: 8-15th May 2026

Christmas Island: 15-22nd May 2026

How do I join the Indian Ocean Territories Voyage?

We are now recruiting volunteers to join us on the trip. We will fill the spots as we go, so apply as soon as possible if you would like to be part of the trip.

You will need to cover the costs of your travel and some meals. Accommodation and some meals during clean-up days will be covered by Tangaroa Blue Foundation.

What sort of volunteers are you looking for?

We are looking for enthusiastic, passionate volunteers who aren't afraid to get stuck in and work hard! Previous experience isn't essential, but volunteers must be fit enough to work outside in the heat and hike to some of the more remote clean-up sites.

Can I join for just one section of the trip?

Yes, we are open to applications from volunteers who want to join us on the Cocos (Keeling) Islands, Christmas Island or both!

What happens after I make an application?

After submitting an application, the Tangaroa Blue team will review and invite selected volunteers to proceed to an interview. Those volunteers who are a great fit for the team will be invited on the voyage.  To confirm the position, volunteers will need to purchase their flight ticket and travel insurance policy and provide a copy to have their place on the team locked in.
 
Once all positions are filled, you will be able to apply for the waiting list in case a position becomes available.
