Does Tangaroa Blue work alongside Traditional Owners?
Yes, we work with many First Nations and Traditional Custodians across Australia.
Tangaroa Blue Foundation acknowledges the First Nations people as Traditional Owners and Custodians of Country across Australia, including the Land and Sea Country on which we live and work.
We pay our respects to their Elders, past and present, and acknowledge their continuous relationship to this land and the ongoing cultures of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
We work with many Traditional Custodians and Ranger groups to protect coastal environments and aim to build long-lasting relationships that support communities in protecting their Land and Sea Country from marine debris.
How we collaborate
Respectful Engagement
Tangaroa Blue supports Traditional Custodians through collaboration and engagement in all activities, emphasising free, prior, and informed consent and effective participation.
Shared Knowledge
We respect the wisdom Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities share with us when working on Country.
Strategic Alignment
Our operations are aligned with the Traditional Owner Implementation Plan 2022 - Reef 2050.
Capacity Building
Through community clean-ups, AMDI training programs, and source reduction workshops, we aim to engage Traditional Custodians on all the land and sea where we work.
Data Sovereignty
We facilitate data access and sovereignty for Land & Sea Management to ensure communities have the evidence they need to manage their own Country.
