What is expected from my vessel and crew if we join the FAD Watch network?
There is no obligation to assist; only do so when it is safe and operationally viable for you.
As a FAD Watch vessel partner, you agree to share your general area of operation or voyage details with the Tangaroa Blue team so we know whether you may be near a FAD if it appears on our satellite map.
If a drifting FAD/GPS buoy is detected near your location, you will be alerted and may determine if it is reasonable, safe and operationally possible to retrieve the FAD and buoy. If you can retrieve the gear, you will need to store the gear on board until your return to port.
What happens if I’m unable to assist?
There is no requirement to participate in any recovery. Safety, weather conditions, and operational priorities always come first, and you may decline a request at any time.
