What is Tangaroa Blue's mission and objectives?

Tangaroa Blue Foundation (TBF) works to prevent and remove marine debris in Australia and across regions. We use the Australian Marine Debris Initiative framework to inspire behaviour change, innovation, and empower communities, industry and government to make data-driven decisions that improve ocean health.

Through the Australian Marine Debris Initiative (AMDI), we:

• Remove marine debris from the marine environment
• Engage citizen scientists
• Conduct marine debris monitoring programs
• Collect robust scientific data on the type of debris found
• Track marine debris back to its source
• Work with community, government and industry stakeholders to find strategies (Source Reduction Plans) to prevent marine debris from occurring in the first place
• Work with partners to divert marine debris, in particular plastics, from landfill
• Provide education resources and presentations on the marine debris issue to increase understanding and awareness in communities
