What is the difference between monitoring and clean-up events?
It's down to science!
General Clean-ups
General Clean-ups cover as much of the area as can be cleaned with the number of people and time available for the event, and can be on or off, or more irregular in timing.
Check out our calendar to join a clean-up.
Monitoring Activities
Monitoring activities are based on scientific protocols that cover how often a site is cleaned, the specific locations of cleaned areas, the use of transects, and detailed information on the debris collected.
What to expect if you join us at a monitoring event
Expect to do a beach clean-up as usual, but we'll do it in a specific way (following a protocol that ensures good data is collected). We will spend more time identifying and logging the debris we find than at a general clean-up.
We always need volunteers to help at our monitoring events to collect vital data. Check out our calendar to join a monitoring event.
